The Avengers answer a call for help that originates in the blue area of the moon. There, they find that the Watcher's former abode has become a lush forest, a garden. Upon arriving, the team is attacked by a Kree Sentry, one that has been somehow modified to be a sort of robot and organic hybrid.

The Avengers are caught unprepared for the sonic attack the Sentry uses against them, but to their surprise, a familiar face comes to their rescue: The Cotati Swordsman! With the element of surprise now in their favor, Earth's Mightiest Heroes defeat the gigantic construct, and destroy it.

Swordsman explains that the Cotati have returned to the Moon seeking a second chance at life, and they hope the Avengers can help them achieve this goal. Sequoia -who is the Cotati Sowrdsman's son with former Avenger Mantis- makes his presence known, and explains to his guests that The Kree and the Skrulls have formed an alliance to exterminate the Cotati as a propaganda victory in their quest to become the dominating force in the universe.

The Avengers promise to protect the Cotati against the new Kree-Skrull alliance. Iron Man promptly assumes leadership of the effort, not only because he has recently been plagued by nightmares of the first Cotati massacre by the Kree, or because he feels strangely at peace in the garden, but also because he already foresees internal conflict in the form of Captain Marvel, who happens to be half Kree.

While the Avengers prepare for war, a space fleet is headed for the Earth's Moon, and one of the ships in the middle of the immense swarm brings in it the first family of the Marvel Universe: The Fantastic Four!
