A new arc begins for the Wonders that slowly are resurfacing on Earth-2. The Tower of Fate will bring about the much expected return of one of the most representative characters of that world; for now, however, readers are introduced to the human host of Nabu's helm, Khalid Ben-Hassin, a young man that each time he uses the magical artifact, gains great powers at the cost of his sanity; an interesting conflict for someone who will need to to save the world on a daily basis by losing himself in the process. The Man Who Was Scared also sees the debut of Sonia Sato, who in the old continuity was the newest Judomaster, and here is also a Major in the World Army. Robinson is being very successful at making this book a reflection of the diverse society in which we live today; it doesn't feel forced, it actually feels quite natural. Hawkgirl's grudge against Green Lantern, or rather, her way of expressing it, makes one go "why don't you tell me how you really feel about it?" Fun stuff, great issue!

James Robinson's exploration of Earth-2 takes readers to the kingdom of Dherain where Steppenwolf has taken refuge. This interlude serves as a means to introduce the much expected character of Fury, and to enforce the idea that the title is not about the Justice Society, but about the world itself, and the enjoyable process that has been unraveling and discovering it. Even though Lazy Sunday does not reveal much about Fury, her presence sets the stage for a possible new Ternion down the road -along with Power Girl and Huntress. Robinson has also been clever enough to use a codename that connects the character to the amazons and Apokolips, and whether she is Donna Troy, Lyta Trevor, or even Barda, this Fury has instantly become a fan favorite. Yildiray Cinar and Alex Sinclair step up to the plate delivering very nice artwork. Overall, a great issue!

Now that all that zero month business is done, the Wonders of Earth-2 continue their battle against the deadly menace of Grundy. Amid the chaos, further characterization takes place, which is the perfect recipe for those who love action as much as development. Jay is enthusiastic almost to a fault, and with delusions that things in the world are either black or white; ironic then that he is fighting a creature of the Grey, because sooner or later he will learn how wrong he is. In the meantime, Alan quickly shows his leadership skills, and Al just banters with anyone around him. This world-building is very exciting; every time a familiar name is mentioned, be it Wesley Dodds, Ted Grant, or Red Tornado, is like one more angel earns new wings, and the mind runs wild with ideas of how these characters will be introduced. Nicola Scott nails it with all the intricate details, yet manages to keep it neat and clean for Alex Sinclair's amazing colors. A must read.

Zero month takes readers back to Earth-2 when Helena Wayne first became Robin, and the tragic events that shaped her friendship with Supergirl. Paul Levitz surely had the best time writing this story, because the plot and the dialog in it show it. Helena's relationship with her parents, and what she learned and inherited from each makes of her current self as Huntress a true half-Catwoman, half-Batman, whereas in the past she had been mostly connected to the latter. With Supergirl, things are almost bittersweet. The Kara of Earth-2 was exactly what the current Supergirl from the main Earth should be, but sadly isn't. She is very reminiscent of the Silver Age Kara -Linda Lee Danvers- down to the Secret Weapon angle. Kevin Maguire and Wes Craig shine with fantastic artwork for the entire issue -keeping the theme of the book as the whole thing is a flashback. We need to see more of Robin and Supergirl's feats in Earth-2.

Artist Showcase :: Brett Booth

Brett Booth is an American comic book artist. He is best known for his work on Backlash, a character he co-created with Jim Lee at the Wildstorm Studios. Following his Wildstorm work, Mr. Booth has also illustrated the exploits of some of Marvel Comics' best known characters such as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men.

The artist then expanded his career when he contributed illustrations for the Anthropomorphic How-To book Freaks! How To Draw Fantastic Fantasy Creatures. He is currently active as a paleoartist drawing dinosaurs for various publications and websites as well as continuing to draw comic books.
