Spider-Woman is one of the most intriguing and complex characters in the Marvel Universe. She has been a spy, a detective, a hero, and a mother, but her origins are shrouded in mystery and tragedy. Who is Jessica Drew, and how did she become Spider-Woman?

Jessica Drew was born in 1924 to Jonathan and Miriam Drew, two scientists who worked with the High Evolutionary, a geneticist who experimented on animals and humans in his hidden base on Mount Wundagore, a mountain in Transia. When Jessica was seven years old, she was exposed to uranium radiation from her father’s research, and became gravely ill. To save her life, her father injected her with an experimental spider-derived serum, and placed her in a genetic accelerator that slowed down her aging and enhanced her physiology. Jessica spent decades in stasis, receiving subliminal education through special tapes.

When Jessica finally woke up, she was still a teenager, but had gained superhuman powers: super strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, wall-crawling, bio-electric blasts, and pheromone manipulation. She also discovered that she had no memory of her past or her identity. She was rescued by Count Otto Vermis, a leader of Hydra, a terrorist organization that sought world domination. Vermis brainwashed Jessica into believing that she was a spider evolved into human form by the High Evolutionary, and trained her as an assassin under the codename Arachne. He also assigned Jared Kurtz, another Hydra agent, to be her lover and handler.

Jessica’s first mission was to kill Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a global espionage agency that opposed Hydra. However, during the mission, Jessica learned the truth about Hydra and Kurtz from Fury himself, and turned against them. She adopted the name Spider-Woman, and began a journey of self-discovery and heroism. Along the way, she encountered many allies and enemies, such as Spider-Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Daredevil, Wolverine, Madame Hydra, Morgan le Fay, the Skrulls, and more.

Spider-Woman has been a member of several teams and organizations over the years, such as the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D., S.W.O.R.D., Lady Liberators, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, Mighty Avengers, and Daughters of Liberty. She has also worked as a private investigator and a bounty hunter. She has faced many challenges and hardships in her life: losing her parents and friends; being manipulated by various villains; losing and regaining her powers; being replaced by a Skrull impostor; giving birth to a son named Gerry; fighting in intergalactic wars; dealing with trauma and depression; and more.
Spider-Woman is a resilient and courageous woman who never gives up on herself or her friends. She is loyal, compassionate, witty, and fierce. She is one of the most amazing heroes in the Marvel Universe.
