Our Worlds at War :: Chapter II

While reminiscing recent battles he had against the Queen of Fables and Alexander Nero, Kyle Rayner is contacted by Superman to help with a matter that had been recently debriefed to him: the disappearance of -then planet- Pluto. Transforming into Green Lantern, Kyle travels to the outer solar system -presumably the Kuiper Belt- and with his ring "herds" enough asteroids and other bodies to build a placeholder, a temporary replacement to the missing Pluto.

As soon as Green Lantern is finished putting together the celestial body thanks to the power of his mighty ring, a nefarious presence makes itself known; it's Sinestro, the disgraced member of the Green Lantern Corps! Kyle does not try to reconcile the fact that the super-villain is alive (after all, Hal Jordan had killed him before becoming Parallax), or understand why Sinestro wants him to return to Earth immediately. Instead, the two just engage in a ferocious fight.

Green Lantern is able to defeat Sinestro, and right when he is about to throw the Korugarian a Knock-Out for the ages, Superman appears, and tries to convince Kyle that it is time to leave and go back to Earth.  By now, the young hero realizes that something is not right, and attacks the Man of Steel with a powerful burst of energy. It turns out that Sinestro, as much as the Man of Steel, are energy constructs!

The Oan Guardian Ganthet also appears, and warns Green Lantern of an upcoming conflict that will test all his abilities and limitations, and that it will be better if he leaves right now, because staying would lead him into a path from which there would be no return. As Ganthet disappears, Kyle heeds the warning and leaves, albeit with many questions in his mind.

It is finally revealed that Brainiac 13 created the Sinestro and Superman constructs, as part of a stratagem to get rid of the Emerald Crusader. The reason why? Pluto is not missing! It is cloaked, hidden, but still in its usual orbit. The placeholder planetoid that Green Lantern built is generating enough gravitational pull to affect the real Pluto, and this could hinder Brainiac 13's plans. Why did Ganthet send Kyle away rather than allowing him to discover the truth? A mystery for another time!
